Client: ThinkOcean NPO

ThinkOcean is a pioneering grassroots non-profit organisation established in 2017. ThinkOcean expanded to become one of the world’s largest youth-led ocean action networks across 4 continents.

Project Overview:

ThinkOcean sought a full website revamp, aiming to restructure navigation and theme for a more engaging, easily comprehensible presentation.

Challenges Presented:
Outdated design and content.
Excessive text that was not engaging.
Generic, template-like appearance.

Project Goal:

The redesign of the non-profit organisation’s website began with an intensive brainstorming session. Collaborating closely with the creative director, we aimed to redefine the website’s identity to make it more engaging and reflective of the organisation’s mission.

Design Process:

1. Wireframing: To kick off the design process, we developed several draft wireframes. These initial drafts served as a visual discussion point between me and the creative team, allowing us to explore various aesthetic and functional layouts. We focused on creating a design that was not only visually appealing but also facilitated a smoother user experience. Each iteration brought us closer to a design that resonated with the core values of the organisation and appealed to its target audience.
2. Site Map Optimization: Recognizing the importance of SEO and efficient navigation, we overhauled the existing site map. The new plan prioritised SEO-friendly practices and improved search engine indexing capabilities. This restructuring was crucial in making the content more accessible to users and easier for search engines to crawl.
3. Squarespace Customization: Since the website was hosted on Squarespace, the redesign was executed within this platform. I utilised Squarespace’s versatile tools to refine the site’s backend, removing orphan pages and streamlining the content management process. This cleanup was essential for enhancing site speed and user interaction.
4. Content Presentation: The core challenge was transforming the dense, text-heavy content into engaging, easily digestible information. By employing modern design principles and focusing on typography and spacing, we ensured that the content was presented optimally. The new design emphasised key messages with enhanced visual hierarchy, making it more engaging for visitors.
5. Feedback: We worked with the client closely, taking feedback and adjusting the output accordingly.
